Shelby had twice the reason to celebrate after Shelby High School and Crest High School each completed a state championship football season in 2025. Shelby High won the NCHSAA 3A Football Championship, while Crest High won the 5A title. Cleveland County Schools recognized the two victories as a historic year for football across the county.
Dr. Ted Injury Law welcomed coaches, school representatives, business leaders and other community members to its Shelby office at 522 E Dixon Boulevard for a gathering honoring both programs. The purpose was simple: celebrate the rare success of two state champion teams from one close-knit community and bring local leaders together around an achievement that Shelby and Cleveland County could share.
Celebrating the People Behind the Championships
A state championship represents much more than a final score. It reflects preparation, teamwork and sustained commitment from student-athletes, coaches, families, educators, booster organizations and supporters.
Mike Wilbanks, head football coach at Shelby High School, spoke during the gathering. Trey Albright, Crest Football Booster President, also joined the celebration. Elaine Mann, President and CEO of the Cleveland County Chamber, and Ronnie Grigg, a member of the Cleveland County Board of Education, were among the community leaders in attendance.
Ted Greve and Dr. Ted Injury Law welcomed coaches, school representatives and community leaders to the firm’s Shelby office. The gathering recognized the student-athletes, families, educators and supporters behind both championship seasons.
One Shelby Community, Two State Champions
A commemorative shirt created for the gathering carried the message “Welcome to the Home of 2 State Champions” alongside the helmets of Shelby High School and Crest High School. The design captured what made the celebration distinctive: two accomplished football programs representing one proud community.
A Crest High School state football championship ring displayed at the gathering featured the Chargers horse logo. Crest High School identifies its mascot as the Charger.
The gathering also featured championship memorabilia, remarks from community and football leaders, and conversations among people committed to Shelby and Cleveland County. The evening provided an opportunity to celebrate the athletes while also recognizing the coaches, families, educators and supporters who contributed to both programs.
A Community Worth Celebrating
Bringing community leaders together was an important part of the occasion. Strong communities are built through relationships among schools, families, local organizations and businesses.
